The End of an Era
Following the navel-gazing heralded in our last newsletter, we've made the decision to close the business. This decision didn't come easily. Essentially, in Willie's words:
It is with considerable regret that we announce the closure of Seven Sheds Brewery and cellar-door (as of the end of April 2025).
That makes it 17 years, nearly to the day we opened; so we've had a pretty good innings.
Various factors influenced our decision to close: tough economic conditions and new trade waste demands from Tas Water played a part. Ultimately, the Container Refund Scheme proved to be the tipping point.
Even though we were exempt from the CRS, it still would have required considerable added expense in labelling compliance, far beyond the token compensation offered by the state government for artisan producers like ourselves.
A whole-hearted and warm "thank you" to all our customers who have embraced the Seven Sheds dream over the years. Many of you have become close friends, far beyond mere commercial relationships.
We still have stock available for sale, either online or by contacting us directly. At some point, of course, that will run out.
It's been one hell of a journey for Seven Sheds and extremely gratifying, above all, to see our beer enjoyed and embraced with such enthusiasm.
We're also proud to have been part of both an emergent regional agri-tourism trail and the booming local craft beer community.
